The Lowell Humane Society Steps for Pets is coming up fast.  Don't forget to register your furry friend soon to help us raise $$ for pets still looking for their forever home!  While you are there come visit our Best Friends Pet Care booth for a chance to win a Free Pampered Pooch Get Away weekend! Fifi or Fido will enjoy two nights boarding in a spacious2-room suite with an elevated bed and a comfy mattress plus: a walk or playtime each day followed by a "suite" treat or ice cream break with bottled water and a bedtime story or cuddle session each evening. Happy Birthday Billy & Eddie!

                                                                                                                                                              This August we celebrated Billy Eddie's birthday in Doggy Day Camp with lots of fun & games! Their friends raced through Tunnels and splashed during Swim Races, made their way through an Agility Obstacle Course, and played Red Light Green Light! Refreshments included a bone shaped doggy cake from the Barkery and Lick a Lots organic peanut butter & banana frozen yogurt treats!

Dry Pet Food Linked To Salmonella

Can your pets food be making your family sick? A recent link between dry pet food and salmonella has been found and was discussed this morning on ABC news. Kids & Dogs Can Have Fun in the Summer Sun!

It's summer time! A great time for both kids and pets to enjoy the nice weather at a park, a beach, or just playing around in the neighborhood.  A recent article in the Lowell Sun talks about how to teach your kids to respect dogs.  Here are some tips from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) on how kids & pets can have fun this summer and be safe! Wait: until kids are older than 4yrs before getting a family pet.
Supervise: Never leave small childer or babies alone with a pet.
Be Cautious: Teach your children to be cautious around pets and not to bother them while sleeping or eating.
Ask First:  Childern should ask an owner for permission 1st before petting.
Don't Run: Tell kids to stay still if a strange dog comes up to them. Dogs naturally love to chase!
Treat bites immediately: Wash small wounds with soap and water. Seek medical attention for larger wounds.
